Challenge complete!

So I finished up the hobby challenge for 2013.   For the final month I completed my acanthrites.  I've done a few forge world models now, and these were by far the worst.  Besides being super fragile, I felt like compared to the plastic GW wraiths they lack in detail.

With those guys complete I'm done with the challenge I started in March.  Here's the rundown...

5 Deathmarks= 95 points completed
5 lycheguard with warscythe= 200 points completed
10 immortals with tesla= 170 points completed
3 spyders= 150 points completed
1 ghost ark= 115 points completed
Tomb Stalker= 205 points completed
1 destroyer lord (with res orb, mindshackle scarabs, and semp weave)= 190 points
5 destroyers (2 with heavy gauss cannon)=240
Night Shroud Bomber 225 points completed
Zahndrekh= 185 points
Obryon= 160 points completed
Tesseract Ark=250 points completed
15 Warriors=195 points
3 Arcanthites= 150 points

2530 completed

That's a lot of fucking robots.  Check it out below...

Obviously having a couple of larger point vehicles helps to bump up the point total, but only 1850 was required so I feel pretty good about hitting my goal.  With this additional 2380 it puts my grand Necron total at well over 5500 points (depending on how my units are equipped I could add a couple hundred more points if needed).  Point is, I gotta a lot of Necrons...not just done but fully painted, which is pretty awesome.  Here they all are, a nice crisp fall day.

Besides all of these lovely painted dudes, I have a few more unpainted Necrons.  I originally had on my list 10 tomb blades, but I wimped out and did not attempt those guys.  They are very small and fiddly plus they are crap units on the table so I decided to wait.  In addition to the tomb blades I have 1 annihilation barge, 2 doomsday arks, 1 monolith and another HQ independent character all totaling around 1000 points (most of this stuff I got off of ebay on the cheap).  It took me two years to get almost 6000 points all painted up, I'm going to take a robot break but I'm hoping to finish off that remaining 1000 before next November.  Who knows, the way GW is going lately by early 2015 they could be talking about updating the Necron codex!

Looking awesome Ben! So what are your plans? Going to finish off the last of your Necrons, take a break, or start a new list?

I like the slow burn to army building personally. My EC are a several year project for example.

On a side note, I have been working on my IG stuff (putting together) and should have 27 heavy weapon teams finished once I get more bases in. Next project is the special weapon troopers!

I'm going to take a little break from necrons. I've got a couple of items I got from forge world and I would like to finish the units I started doing test models of (death shroud termie's, plague bearers and drones). I'm most likely just going to work on a chaos marine/nurgle daemon army that could double as a space marine army if needed. Actually, it could be a 30k army too, because I bought a bunch of mrk. III armor marines off of ebay. In the future I'll decide if I want to try and sell it.

Eventually I want to go back and finish off those Necrons...considering how many I've done in the past 2 years the remaining shouldn't take long.

Aren't IG supposed to come out early next year? Could be fun!

D-D-D-DOUBLE POST!

Yeah, IG is coming out sooner than later. I am actually super psyched about the Ork Codex, because I think Chapter Tactics are the wave of the future.

TBH, I am loving the FW 30k marines. I think that era has some real possibility and would allow GW to really shore up their history some. I want to get a bunch of those Marines for my EC.

Yeah, I'm not a EC guy, but those paladin squads and the termie's they have are pretty hot looking. I also really like the purple they use for the pre-heresy EC as opposed to the current evil purple....looks way nicer.

I hope chapter tactics are the wave of the future...could be really cool in armies like chaos, orks, even IG. We shall see.

I got the second FW horus heresy book, just started getting into it...very nice. They do a great job with these. Like you said, they seem to be pulling the fluff inline and working with black library to make it a much more cohesive thing.
