Nerd Week Part V: The Grande Finale

Ok, so maybe hanging it out in a basement isn't that grand.  Anyway, to finish of my mini-vacation Atom had a bunch of us over to break in the Nerd Bunker with a whole mess of combat patrol.  I played 4 games so I won't go into too much detail (I also didn't take too many pictures).  We played a few games against some new peeps (new for us).  I have not included them on the ol' scoreboard.  If we end up playing a few more with them I will make sure to add them.

Josh and I teamed up (I tried out Necrons) against Kevin (Eldar) and Jon (Space Wolves).  We got taken to brown town.  It was ugly.  Way too much shooting to deal with.  Space wolves long fangs are nasty and when that is combined with 6 war walkers, we didn't stand much of a chance.

During that time, Karl played his Orks against Kelly (who is now a full time Chaos player it appears) and lost a very close game.  Rick played some of Karl's IG against Atom's Chaos and lost due to the resiliency of Plague Marines.

After that, we mixed it up.  Josh and I once again teamed up (I still used my 'Crons).  Karl and Rick created an IG/Ork combo and we went to war.  Team Naucron won the game due to Karl and Rick creating a parking lot of immobilized trucks and chimera.  With limited movement on the board we were able to slowly whittle down their forces with lots and lots of shooting.  I tried out the Tesla weapons this game on my immortals and was pleased with the result.  My scarabs also did pretty well, they didn't kill anything or eat any vehicles, but they did tie up Karl's big unit long enough for me to gather my army up and pour gaus into the Orks.

Next we split up and I took on Karl's Ork's by myself.  This was probably the dullest game of 40k ever played by man.  I had two objectives in my zone so I just sat on them and waited for Karl.  In the end gaus fire slowed him down enough for me to hold on for a victory.  I did try a proxy ghost arc, it was pretty cool and showed off how nasty 20+ rapid fire guns could be.

During this time Josh tried out the Grey Knights against Kelly's Chaos.  I didn't see much of the game, but in the end Grey Knights prevailed.  Atom also got fisted by Eldar War Walkers.

Finally, BT actually showed up and I played his Eldar with my Blood Angels.  I tried using death company with bolters because the are relentless.  The extra shooting was nice against an army with a high initiative.  I may use it again against Tyranids or something with poopy armor saves.  The game was a slugfest and it would have been a tie but it luckily went past turn 5 and I was able to kill BT's last unit.  So I won by annihilation, no one had any objectives (isn't that what the death company is for anyway?).

It was a fun day of gaming.  The Necrons are big departure from the style I'm used to.  All of this sitting back and shooting, trying to avoid assault...it's weird.  Hopefully I can adjust in the future.
