I did stuff!

It has been a long process, but I finally finished some Vanguard Veterans.  I started these dudes months ago, but things kept getting in the way and slowing me down.  With the busy holiday season upon us I don't see my progress picking up.

I have 20+ models to use as Vanguard's.  Most of them are plastic bashes of death company models and assault marines that are fully magnetized.  A few of them are some old metal models that I believe have been discontinued or are in the process of becoming finecast.  I painted the old metal ones first.
I've five options, power sword/bolt pistol, duel lightning claws, glaive, plasma pistol/power sword, and bolt pistol/chainsword.  A very expensive group of dudes.  I tried them out in one game against Karl many months ago and they died very quickly.  I'm hoping to give them another shot in the near future.
Again, I'm not impressed with the older GW metal models.  Compared to the detail of their new plastic kits these models suck.  I know people bitch about "failcast" but I would be anxious to see if the detail is better on them versus these well used older molds.

Besides lacking some detail in spots, I would like to make my gold shine a bit brighter.  I know I mentioned in an earlier post that all of my colors are muted and dark (very 40k of me) and I would like to try and find out a good way to paint a bit brighter.  I have also decided to change up my basing.  While I was never a huge fan of flock, I liked the way it looked on the models when I had just finished them.  Now, some of those models are a year and a half old and the flock is drying up and becoming super brittle.  What I'm trying to say is that the flock looks like shit after a few months.  So I've started using the black fish tank gravel I used with BT's Eldar.  It looks ok, I may experiment with a few other options in the future.

Next up for me I am going to attempt to paint some dreadnoughts...hopefully it won't take me 3 months.
